Hey Charles,

I'm producing this audio clip for a very particular reason. It's designed for you and the members whom you have on your email list. Of which I'm really honored to be part of. But I can humbly say as well that you and the others are in for a special gift. A gift of very useful content over time!

You and I have known each other for over twenty years. We met when Harold Washington was mayor. And we met specifically when you were advising Ed Smith on his 1st run for alderman. And we've been 2 freelance, community oriented brainstormers ever since (From the westside to the western suburbs, we're tracked and discussed the issues in our community). I've mentioned all of this so that your a-listers know that we you and I have a history in our community.

As you know I've focused my attention for many years on how the internet impacts the African American Community. In fact almost each time that we bump into one another, I'm always sharing some aspect of my ongoing research focus data with you.

Well now it's time to share my collected data and research findings with more folks. And I choose to educate those whom I have experienced a fruitful, warm relationship thru the years.

It appears that based on the research and study that I've done on: Blogging, podcasting, simple website design, netcasting, internet radio, audio, video blogs, web channels, creative digital photos designs, emerging mobile phone technology and so much more has become very important in the community and thruout our country. And I have been closely following the footprints of some of the internets more innovative poineers such as: Dan bricklin, yaro, darren rowse, brain clark, jenette cates to name a few greats minds over the years. I've come to recognize so many connecting dots of emerging signs of things to come as far as what's what in todays's ( right now) emerging digital media. We are all witness to probably the greatest informational transistion that the world has known. Some among our community must earnestly begin to translate what is really going on. And not pontificate on those areas that they cannot provide, honest, knowledgable and valuable informational contributions. In short we must wake up!

Therefore I'm going to make it a point to coach you and your a-list emailers on what's what as it pertains to current and emerging digital technology and new media concepts (at least those who are thirsty to learn about my efforts therein).And I hope ya'll are wise enough to listen and utilize the information that you will receive.

So buckle up and let your friends hear these words. I will be your new media digital, multimedia advice coach. You and your friends will receive the benefit, the unique information, the many online resources, that they need to know, concerning what's what and what are the really important current and emerging multimedia learning tools and features that our community ought to place our focus on and participate in.

Now then many of your a-list people have been invited to share uncommon information that took me many years to decode and understand. I sincerely trust that most have the wisdom, the vision and the energy to realize what I'm sharing with your list. Your future learning envioronment must include interactive learning abilities. I can help those who hear this information get there. I won't do the work, but I can provide you a format. A correct perspective upon which some of you may begin to prepare for a digital future that is changing global positions as I write.

I can't figure out to what degree that a change is taking place. But blogs are really taking off. Is it a sea change? I'm still guessing!

But my sense is that those / we small businesses who begin to blog. Are going to reap the coming harvest.

Presently I'm having a senior moment. Or maybe the creative writing juices just aren't flowing as I would like. Otherwise I would attempt to put Sy's spin on blogging possibilties currently as I see it. Technology in the Past Has Worked Against the Black's Interest..Why?

Both of the above quotes are almost exactly ways in which far too often I have found ring true, regarding the current African American community social folkways. To ignore such tendecies among present day African Americans is to forget that technology was always used against our race in the past.

And finally when now remarkable opportunities confront our race, all that is required is that we bring a sense of eager participation, an open mind and a sincere, honest approach.

I suspect that most of my people who are reading this, probably rank far above this writer in education, social status and economic well being. But, I believe that it's time that we put these titles in perspective and begin to develope small neighborhood forums and just have a conversation! A creative conversation and a sense of non-judgemental listening. Yes, that's what we should do. Now you know, go for it!

Just having an email account or 2 is not very professional for a small business today. As I've been saying since January. 2006 is an important year of technological convergence. Meaning that we now are beginning to utilize many more kinds of technology to communicate, that's well beyond email. I don't think that it's a big secret that money is tight. And folks are sort of forced to think pretty hard about how and where they spend their hard earned money.

And the goal for me is always trying to balance my many creative projects / skills with getting paid, while sharing the very best of my out of the box marketing promotional projects. And If I have any chance at all to sell my ideas, it must involve helping small business people to get their product or service out on the internet ( with professionalism, a sense of integrity and skills that bring with it,a level or standard that speaks for itself. ( Although, it really does require a level of present technology awareness to even understand what we are bringing to the table ). It's quite a lot, in fact!

And although it may appear like a typical FREE offer! It's far from typical. I'm not a salesman, really. I'm the person who will create, design and help you compose your website. I'm taking the FIRST STEP!

I need to know what are your current projects or sales, etc
I need to know what are your future plans and vision
I need to know what good things that you are doing in the community
I need to know who are your prime suppliers
Do you have any really nice testimonials about your business or service?
Oh, by the way, I hope that by the questions that I'm asking ( alerts you ) that I know what I'm doing. And now to continue!

It will cost you nothing for me to build, design and create your new website. And it will be first a first class website, too. And FREE as well.

I am going to list below, in groups of five. Businesses that probably should get a website as soon as possible. This is strictly based on my overall observation in regards to the work and research that I've done in this field.

Daycare Centers ( for obvious reasons, parents want to stay as informed as possible. A smart use of computers will transform an average daycare into an important player )
Any Restaurant or Take Out whose business is located near a hospital or lots of offices, is losing major $$$ by not utilizing computer / audio technology. And the cost to get it is really cheap. What's missing is that many owners just don't know what this technology will do today! This is a big oversight...
Any retail store needs to have a website. And not one that your grandson has built in high school. We're talking about marketing here. At $20.00 per month for maintenance cost. We're trying to make it as easy as possible for anyone who is selling an honest product or service.
General contractors, tradesmen, handymen or women, house painters, carpenters, etc. Even if you're working by yourself or with a partner.Come on, this is 2006...Get a basic, professional website and you will immediate upgrade your status as a serious professional!
Automobile repair, detailing, painting, washing, etc. One thing is for sure. Single & married professional women have computers and new cars. If you fix or work on cars and trucks and you're ignoring having website. Man you're so far going in the wrong direction, it's incredibly a wrong atitude. You ought to change that thinking today!

How your business or store can bring in more ( buying ) traffic!

I'd like to offer an easy to do 'tip' to those merchants who join our team by allowing us to build a website for their business. Here's what you ought to do. Tell the business owners in your block or shopping mall, to do the same thing that you are doing now. For the same price.

They will get the same very, very high level of service that I'm providing for you. Now, here's the upshot!

Put your flyers and pluggers in the stores in your vicinity.
Tell each one of the those stores to make sure that every customer takes a flyer.
All businesses who have a website in your vicinity, block or mall should be have their product listed on that flyer.
Make sure that this flyer changes every two weeks!
List your special, coupons, etc.
Please instruct your clerks / managers to do 2 things, all day, everyday!
Those 2 things are as follows: (1) Make sure that every person who enters your store or place of business has a flyer before they leave the store ( because when that happens you are working against your own sales efforts ) (2) Keep a pen and pad available.And write down every person's email address who enter's your store.( By doing this you are creating an important customer database )

On this week's Sy's Weekly Minute

Businesses who will benefit greatly from Audio technology are: Any restaurants, deli's, take outs near hospitals and other large office style complexes. You won't require a lot of talk. But the speaker voice must mention your: Weekly specials, your top selling items and your delivery policy. And your speaker voice should change special each week.

Again, if you're in the restaurant business today. Office workers, nurses and anyone who orders foods to be picked up or delivered will appreciate hearing someone read your menu & and other specials. People can do other things when they are listening. When they're reading they must pay closer attention. Listening saves them time and they can play it over and over, until they decide what they want to order.

An additional reason that an audioblog or website is very neccessary today, is that anyone with an Ipod can......Push a button for a local restaurant on their Ipod directory ( and there are many directories that they have access to ). They are only going to choose the restaurants that have video or audio.

I'm truly happy for the opportunity to post Sy's Weekly Minute. And, I don't take my mission lightly. Although, judging by most people whom I come in contact with daily. There seems to be a strong desire not to extend much effort toward learning what technology is actually doing as we speak and how it will impact our daily lives in the emerging future. Well that's not my cup of tea. I'm very interested! And for those of you who follow 'Sy's Weekly Minute'. Here's what my tea leaves are telling me.

If your business or service wants to compete on the internet from today March (2006) and beyond. You must insert some form of audio or video into your website. And before I continue, let me say this. My primary research over the last couple of years, has been in audio technology. Precisely Audioblogging & Podcasting! I know who knows where the leaders play. I certainly don't wish for some of you to fish around for a year or two, before you understand what I'm offering you.

Now then, as I was saying, audio technology is simply an updating of radio programming, that has many other supportive elements to compliment it. Such as millions of potential listeners or buyers. Lightning quick access to your audience. Research tools are always just a click or 2 away. You can easily duplicate what other successful people ( businesses like yours ) are doing with the exact same product or service that you have. The smart ones are positioning to include at least some form of audio into their marketing strategy.

My goal is two fold.
(1) The majority of those reading or listening to this information require that someone who has knowledge about audioblogging or podcasting, would share that information in an honest, candid and straight-forward way. That's what I'm doing!

(2) Depending on how many businesses, art projects or events that you're planning or already working on. You may just want to have more than one website or blog. And if that is the case. African American Family Reunions & Technology Posted 4 Jan

Teleconferencing can be an effective, tool to connect families . Allowing organizers to plan family teleconferences on a monthly basis. ( Ask us how!)

This technology that we are sharing will allow African American families to connect nationwide. It’s very doable to hook-up with relatives from all 50 states on the same teleconference line.

I want u to pause a minute and think about what we just said. We will set up a teleconference to include relatives nationwide on one phone call or many phone calls to one teleconference. I KNOW YOU GOT THAT,RIGHT!

Some families know a great deal about their roots.Still others know little. These days families tend to be scattered all over the country. Teleconferences will allow families,college friends, etc.To stay connected even though they live far apart. When families come together at reunions once a year. It’s doubtful that you will get the one on one attention that a monthly teleconference family gathering will generate.

If u as the organizer, held a monthly teleconference, that would create more than enough activities to get things going in your family.

Keep in mind that we can set up monthly family teleconferences, while designing, developing and maintaining a genealogy blog, website or audio / video / photo blog that will include familiy photos, family members and family event history from early ancestors to more recent history.

Furthermore we encourage organizers to post a familiy history section. Linking the names to separate family member trees. Each person profiled separately.

Privacy / security issues: You should ask all living relatives for permission to include information about them on the site. Some do not want their information published on the web and others prefer that you not include certain information ( for example, birth dates ). In all cases you should respect their wishes.
There are many ways to present each family member that you have done the research on. Such as individual pages.

Including information such as:
Date and place of birthDate, and place death,Marriage date and place,Maiden Name,Names of Children,Names of Parents,Marital Status,Name of Spouse,Immigration Information,U.S.Military,Places the person lived, Where the person ‘fit’ in the family tree.

Also, you should include information sources wherever possible!
My favorite section :

Memories and stories:

You can use this section to describe personal memories you have about a particular relative. If this family member or any other family member has a website or email address of their own, then you may include it.

Next there should be a section to include photos and stories from a recent family reunion. When and where it was held. And how many people attended.

As well, I would suggest that you describe how you went about researching your family tree in the hope that it would inspire others to give it a try.

Don’t be selfish. You should mention where you discovered some of the interesting family history information during the course of your research.

List important links that you discovered. And be sure to evaluate your sources. Remember, don’t believe everything you read!

Don’t forget, most everyone has 2 family names. Your father’s, but also your mother’s. Don’t feel that you must restrict your research to your paternal family tree.

And the last thing that we will leave you with is this. All you have to do to get started on your monthly teleconference is to pick up the phone!

Hi brothers & sisters,

This is a combination blog, photoblog, audioblog, teleconference and soon to become a podcast.

The primary reason that I'm speaking with you now, is because I consider this the best way that I've found to share my extensive research data & findings about computer technology. And how some of the ways that I think it's going to impact the community, now in January 2006 and in the emerging future.
